After half a year in Europe I am finally back to the USA. It was a very warm welcome from all of my friends. When I told them my new cell phone number, lots of them texted and called me immediately.
Now I am here for not even a week but have met and seen more people than in the half year staying in Europe. They are all so excited about my return, want to meet me, see me, talk to me. The journey was interesting, I had lots of transfers, one in Amsterdam and one in Minnesota.
In Minnesota I had the usual homeland security check. It turned out, that I haven’t filled out all of the paperwork:
Mr. Crowley: “Now I need to ask you a serious question!”
Me: “Ok, shoot!”
Mr. Crowley: “Are you a male or a female?”
Me: “Oh, I haven’t decided so far, but probably a female!”
He smiled and I received my papers back – and: Yes, this was really his name! But the plane from Amsterdam had delay due maintenance and I had less than one hour for transfer. My assistance and I were really stressed to pass the homeland security, find my luggage, and bring me to the right plane.
But I made it and finally, on this last flight, there was internet on the plane! I was already a bit turkey – so many hours without an online connection! (Is a group for “anonymous internet addicted people” out there?)
There I could read my mails and make plans where my Mrs. President would pick me up. Due every flight I had a window seat and now we flew across the country. I have seen lots of lakes, mountains with snow – It looked not very warm there, even Nevada looked frozen to me.
We also crossed Wyoming, where they have found dinosaurs. But I haven’t seen one sadly. When it came closer to the bay area, I became nervous and when we flew over Fremont and the Bay I cried. The purser was really concerned what was going on, but I tried to tell her, that everything is ok, that I am only happy.
Everything went fine, the assistance, they didn’t lost my luggage and Mrs. President was there too! She drove me to my new home in San Francisco, I am living now in Glen Park, on a hill with roommates together who have lots of stories to share.
I also have the sweetest landlady ever, the next day she drove me to all places I needed to be for e.g. a mobile phone. Thursday was the first Marketing Meeting where I attended for the first time in person and not on a call. Lots of hugs were shared! Also they seen to be very happy to have me there.
Friday was not such a good day at all. Well, it began great and ended not so well. I went to a meetup, used the public transportation. When it finally ended, there was a heavy rain and thunder storm outsite. And I needed to walk about 1,5 miles to the bart station. The umbrella broke due the heavy wind, I was soaked wet, cursed half of the way as a sailor and then I decided to make the best of the situation.
I warmed up a bit the two stations in the bart and then walked bare feet the hill while “I am singing in the rain” singing loudly. I took a hot shower – there was nothing dry on me anymore. And if I say nothing, I mean nothing. Now I have a cold.
But: it is, what it is! Life goes on!
